Our picture this month is of a railroad track repair crew that was taken on a now abandoned spur that ran from Welty road east to Kidron in the north central part of East Union township. The photographer is looking east just east of Carr road on the old Martin Farm which I believe is now owned by Tom Orr. Note the railroad jack and long wooden handle in the foreground and what appears to be a lunch box on the wooden hand car. This photograph was made from a glass negative which was the technology of the early 1900’s. Remnants of the old track bed can be seen at a few of the road crossings and on old aerial photos. Thank you Myron Martin for sharing it with us and for the interview that you gave us that can be seen on this website later this month.
